As a teacher, I agree that we need to move away from lecturing, but we need to be wary of "edutainment". Students MUST master basic skills while working on the three "C's" mentioned in this video. Too many students are coming out of the elementary grades without basic math and reading skills. Programs like Chicago Everyday math are putting our kids in a terrible situation because they do not establish a foundation for middle school & high school students to compete with the Chinese and Indians.
All three steps, except the idea of competition (with others, not with oneself) are present in Montessori education decades ago. Now, we must adopt the advantages of the technology that was not availiable before. The Montessori Method of education, misunderstood and harshly criticized by many, has proven to be highly succesful. Both my children, 31 and 26 yrs old now, are living proof!!

Obviously, in New York City, there many schools whose budgets aren't big enough to invest in laptops for students to surf the web and be involve in forums, but that should never deter a teacher from being creative and making students feel like their educations is just as good as an education in a high performing school with bigger budgets.

This video rightfully questions some teacher's style of teaching. In the 21st century, teachers should always be open to social change, classroom change and world change.

Great video especially for teachers who are entering the classroom for the first time. The traditional way of teaching will no longer be relevant in the coming years.
